Who built the Jaggarnath Puri Temple ?
The Jaggarnath Puri Temple was built by Ganga Dynasty Ananta Varman Choda ganga Deva. The temple is an important place of worship for Hindus and Jains. It also has a unique architecture and is a testimony to the architectural works of Puri’s ancestors, who constructed this place around centuries ago.
The temple is said to be the oldest and largest Hindu temple in the world. It is also known as the ‘Temple of the Gods’ or ‘The Temple of Shiva’. It took more than 600 years for the temple to be completed and it was dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The temple complex consists of a main shrine and subsidiary shrines for deities such as Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. These deities are believed to have been worshipped here since ancient times, with the main deity being Shiva who is known as Kalki or Mahamaya (Shiva’s consort).
Jagannath Puri Temple Facts
As per Indian mythology, Jaggarnath Puri Temple is said to be the place where Shiva, the god of destruction and destruction of worlds, was born. It was a place where rituals were performed and once it was destroyed by a fire, Shiva was born.
The temple was built with bricks made from lime and sandstone brought from nearby mountains to make it more durable than other Hindu temples at that time.
It was destroyed by a fire in 1836 AD but later restored by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chaudhary (1812-1865) who also built another temple at present day Patna, Bihar state. The present day Jaggarnath Temple complex has two main parts.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the deity is known as Bhagawan Jagganath. The temple has a large pond with an image of Lord Jagganath and a statue of Goddess Parvati. There are also other temples around this area but they are not very old or important like this one.
